Photography > Kissing By Proxy

This project is concerned with hypothetical connections at mouth level. A group of admired and respected colleagues agreed to pose with their mouths at the exact level of my own. I then manipulated my body to bring my mouth to the exact level of their mouths. Images are mounted as diptychs, each showing the maximum possible physical gesture that would be necessary for the parties depicted to kiss. The strain and comportment each individual makes toward building a connection is crystallized in an impossible moment. These images show the frustrated attempt to connect, the longing to be near, frozen and made strange by its decontextualization.
