Scent Markings
7" x 10" Silkscreen on paper, editions of 25
All text corresponds to traditional floral meanings. Each print is scented with a custom perfume distilled from the plant essences indicated by the source language.
This project takes cues from the Victorian art of the tussy-mussy- A practice of sending coded messages through carefully selected flowers. Each floral element is assigned a specific meaning. These bouquets were originally used to send message of love, but the language attached to them is often evocative more of lust and commerce. This series takes floral meanings as a source for automatic poetry. Each silkscreen print is scented with a custom perfume for the corresponding flowers or plants.
